摘要

The global energy demand has approximately reduplicated since 1980 and the transport sector occupies a considerable amount of this demand. In addition to the transportation sector, fossil-based fuels used in industry and buildings adversely affect the environment and cause global warming due to the CO2 emissions they release. Hence, it is important to use alternative fuels instead of these fossil fuels. Hydrogen is considered one of the future alternative fuels due to its unique properties. In this work, waste/biomass to hydrogen as an alternative biofuel is evaluated. The study aims to examine waste/biomass as renewable resources for producing hydrogen. Brief information on waste/biomass resources and hydrogen energy conversion technologies are explained. A comparative case study for hydrogen production via the gasification process is examined for the EU countries and Turkey. The findings are assessed and suggestions about the implementation of hydrogen production via the gasification process are presented.
