Dead Horses Tell no Tales: Agrarian Revolts, Farmer Suicides and the Right to Cultivate in Neoliberal India

The Kisan Andolan or farmers’ movement that began at the tail end of 2020 and is continuing to this day is perhaps the most significant organised protest to take root in India in the 30 years since economic liberalisation in 1991. It is certainly one of the largest-ever mass movements in India (or indeed anywhere in the world) since independence from British colonial rule.
