摘要

A school of Chinese Buddhism through integration of Mahayana Buddhism from India and Daoism from China, Chan originated in Wei, Jin, and the Southern and Northern Dynasties (220–589), and matured during the Sui (581–618) and Tang (618–907) Dynasties. The principal representative of Chan is Master Huineng (638–713), whose ideas are recorded in Rostrum Scriptures, the most important work of the school.
