Effect of Room Temperature on Thermal Performance of PCM-Based Heat Sink Coupled with Heat Pipe

The current research explores how room temperature affects the performance of a heat sink using phase change material (PCM) in conjunction with a heat pipe. The heat sinks in this study consist of aluminum material, measuring 58 mm in outer diameter, 48 mm in inner diameter, and standing at a height of 55 mm. Furthermore, these heat sinks come with three fins and incorporate heat pipe. The phase change material (PCM) used in the experimental work is Docosane. The fins have a thickness of 2 mm, and the heat pipes are made of copper, featuring a 60 mm condenser length and a 40 mm evaporator length. The operational fluid contained within the heat pipes is water. 99% of the heat sink’s PCM was kept constant during the charging and discharging process with natural convection. The experiment recorded the time it took to charge and discharge at various ambient temperatures ranging from 20 to 28 °C, while applying different power levels ranging from 6 to 12 watts.
