Glacial Cycles and Unresolved Questions

The Earth’s surface experienced thick ice and lower atmospheric CO2 concentration during glacial times. The ice and land rebound model is widely accepted to explain the dramatic change between glacial and interglacial periods. However, this model itself is unable to explain CO2 concentration, so it requires a further explanation involving subsidiary oceanic processes. Further, it is also unable to explain what triggered the emergence of glacial cycles. A quantitative explanation of the atmospheric CO2 concentration in glacial times remains elusive.
