How to Store (or Release) Carbon in (or from) Deep Ocean

  • Tasuku Akagi

摘要

This new interpretation of the relationship between inorganic carbon and silicic acid is further applied to quantify the propensity of water to release and absorb CO2. The mechanisms by which oceanic water absorbs CO2 are understood through a simple idea: to absorb CO2, excess OH− ions produced by weathering are necessary. Additionally, upwelling zones are identified as CO2-releasing zones, where calcification reactions contribute to the CO2 release.
