Weathering and Feedback System
摘要
Chemical weathering, or simply weathering, is the chemical process whereby rock is diminished to ions, oxides, and clay minerals. This process is essentially a neutralization reaction of alkaline rock with acidic atmospheric CO2, thus being involved with carbon cycling on the surface environment. It plays a role in decreasing the atmospheric CO2 concentration together with photosynthesis reaction by plants. Calcification reaction inevitably couples with weathering. This couple has been decreasing and fixing the atmospheric CO2 concentration over a geological period. Weathering is a critical component of a feedback loop on the earth’s surface, regulating the surface condition of the Planet.
