Synthesis of Mosquito Repellent, Antibacterial, and UV-Protective Dye for Functional Dyeing of Polyester
摘要
The demand for mosquito repellent fabric is continuously increasing with the increase in the occurrence of mosquito-borne deadly diseases. Health problems due to bacterial infections and harmful UV exposure remain a worldwide concern. In order to develop textile material providing protection against mosquitoes, bacteria, and UV light, the present work explores a novel multifunctional mosquito-repellent disperse dye. The dye was synthesised using ferulic acid and 4-amino N, N–diethyl-3-methyl benzamide. The synthesised disperse dye was characterised using thin-layer chromatography (TLC), FTIR, 1HNMR, UV–VIS spectroscopy, CHNS analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The polyester fabric was dyed using the synthesised dye, and dyed fabrics were evaluated for colour and fastness. The dyed polyester displayed beautiful shade with acceptable fastness properties. Excellent levels of mosquito repellency, antibacterial property and UV-protection were also displayed by dyed polyester. The functional properties were found durable against washing treatments. The work presents new technique of functional colouration to generate protective textiles.
