Japan’s Economic Growth and Engagement in Asia

The San Francisco Peace Treaty was a milestone for Japan as it ended the occupation in April 1952. Challenges were formidable for Japan, however. Although the United States considered Japan a strategically important country during the Cold War, Japan, an aggressor in the Second World War, had to make special efforts to regain trust as a member of the international community.
