Biotechnology for the Conservation and Improvement of Forest Tree Species

Trees are essential to human existence and a vital part of biological diversity. Population expansion and climate change are aggravating deforestation and degradation of forests. Considering forests’ productive, ecological, protective, recreational, and educational significance, there is a great need to use technology in the protection and conservation of forest trees. In the current century, we have seen an unprecedented use of forest trees and their products in various sectors of economy. The increases use of forest trees also increases their demand, increasing the pressure on the existing resources. Therefore, meeting the surge in the requirement of forest-based products while maintaining sustainable forest development is the need of the hour. Sustainable use of forests and their products need the implementation of various biotechnological methods. This review summarizes use of some of the biotechnological approaches in forest trees.
