Future Research and Conclusions

Areas for future research that could prove fruitful in enhancing our concept of heri-ligion may be its application to heritage sites of other religions such as Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and so forth; environmental impacts of religious tourism and mass pilgrimage (a field that is quite under-studied); and perceptions of museums where they reframe secular and sacred artefacts so that their interpretation and presentation may create contestation and entanglement.
