Welding of Ti-6Al-4V Alloy: A Review
摘要
Ti-6Al-4V alloy is an advanced engineering material with excellent mechanical and metallurgical characteristics. However, welding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy has always been a challenging task because of its great affinity towards atmospheric gases at elevated temperature. Through this article, an attempt has been made to congregate the various shielding techniques used till date for creating inert atmosphere around the weld pool during the welding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. Furthermore, various fusion as well as solid-state welding techniques such as laser welding, electron beam welding, plasma arc welding, tungsten inert gas welding, friction welding, diffusion welding, etc., have been adopted for welding of Ti-6Al-4V alloy. This article also attempts to encapsulate the potential of various welding techniques by highlighting their welding process parameters and their impact on the microstructure property and mechanical performance of the weld joint.
