Hotel Staycation: A New Dynamic for Profitability in Tourism
摘要
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly disrupted the tourism and hospitality sector, prompting hotels to explore innovative strategies for recovery. This chapter investigates the potential of staycation packages as a profitable solution for urban hotels, focusing on local guests amidst travel restrictions. Utilizing the Handbook of Urban Statistics India (2019), it outlines urban demographics, economic indicators, and potential market niches, particularly targeting financially stable urban residents. Staycations, defined by their proximity and brief duration, offer a unique blend of hotel amenities and local exploration. This chapter delves into the psychological motivations driving staycations, including well-being, local discovery, and economic efficiency, emphasizing their appeal across diverse consumer segments. The economic analysis highlights the severe financial impact of vacant hotel rooms in urban India, projecting substantial daily and annual losses. Staycation packages emerge as a viable solution to enhance room occupancy and revenue per available room (RevPAR). The marketing strategies discussed include leveraging digital platforms, partnerships with local attractions, and promoting eco-friendly practices. By adopting innovative product offerings and personalized experiences, hotels can cultivate customer loyalty and transform occasional staycationers into repeat guests. The chapter concludes with a call for further research to identify primary motivators for consistent staycation uptake among urban Indian consumers, aiming to enhance the appeal and efficacy of staycation offerings in the hospitality landscape.
