Measures to Protect Ethical Publications Getting Trapped Under Unethical Practices: Preying by Predatory Journals

Institutions across the globe are in a race to attain diverse rankings and maximum accreditations. Quality assessment in education system is based on performance pillars, viz., project, patent, and publications. In this race and search for possible ways to flourish, sometimes the academic researchers get trapped in the publishing web, i.e., Predatory Publishers. This is identified as an alarming situation, where many scientists are seen trapped for speedy publication, and without any concern for quality measures and journals are just earning through Article Processing Charge. This is real academic preying which is destroying the intellectual assignments just for the sake of business. In India, around 15% of the authors from Council of Scientific and Industrial Research contribute to predatory journals as compared to other institutes of India, i.e., Indian Council of Agriculture Research (17%), National Institutes of Technology (11%), Indian Institute of Technology (9%), and Indian Council of Medical Research (6%). That calls for regulatory bodies to rethink and reevaluate strategic measures on curbing the ethical publications and discourage predatory publications.
