摘要

Sport tourism is lately a fastest-growing sector of the global tourism and travel business as the two industries become more complementary and intertwined. Sport is steadily taking a good shape in the hospitality and entertainment industries; hence, sport entertainment and hospitality are equally and uniquely gaining solid global recognition. Academically, there is a wide span of new sport tourism, event tourism, and related modules, courses, or programs that are presently being offered by diverse global academic institutions. This not only indicates that sport tourism has turned into a new and strong academic field but also demonstrates the urgent need to prepare students, scholars, and academics to take up these new courses. It is therefore important that additional focus is redirected toward skilling and retooling students in order to increase employability within this seemingly dynamic, powerful, and lucrative subsector. This chapter demonstrates the uniqueness and power of sports tourism and events, identifies new courses up for grabs, assesses the entrepreneurship scope in the sport tourism business, and demystifies the career landscape. It points to the contemporary skills to train and prepare employable students in sport tourism, event tourism, and accessible tourism. It is revealed that general professional knowledge on aspects like sport participation, physical education, exercise and fitness, leisure, recreation, law, financing, entertainment, marketing, and venues management (stadium, park, sport museum, etc.) is essential, but also students must be equipped with specialized skills and experiences such as foreign language, new culture exposure, entrepreneurship, study experience abroad, hospitality, and digital skills.
