SDGs and Skill Development: Perspectivizing Future Insights for the Tourism Industry
摘要
Various global trends like excessive use of technology, demographic shifts, changes in the need for work, high dependence on digitalization, and use of disruptive technologies necessitate increased demand for skilled workers in every field one way or another. The economic prospects of the country are brighter if the economies invest in skill building activities. In an increasingly competitive economy, the most productive investment is in developing a wide range of skills for making the general public skilled. In the current chapter in order to explore the area of skill development in tourism industry in relation to SDGs, the literature review is the prime base for supporting our research questions. The systematic literature review of top cited papers in the SCOPUS database in the area of “skill development,” “tourism,” and “SDGs” helps us to know about the role of sustainable development goals in skill development. The literature highlights the area of research and connections of tourism industry and its focus on various skills needed. In addition to highlighting the core areas of research along with the future research agenda in this field, the chapter also highlights various policy implications, which can promote both skill development and sustainability with the help of tourism industry. More skill development programs and special trainings are needed to make this sector employable as well as sustainable. It will not only help in creating more job opportunities but will also better the overall experience of tourists, which are the important suggestions of the chapter.
