摘要

The benzo fused s-heterocycles viz., Benzothiazepines, Benzothiazole, and Benzothiophene derivatives have garnered substantial interest due to their diverse pharmacological activities and potential therapeutic applications. Their synthesis involves a variety of methods, including condensation reactions, cyclization processes, and transition metal-catalyzed reactions. The development of structurally complex derivatives with better pharmacokinetic characteristics and increased biological activity has been made possible by the improvement and diversification of these synthetic pathways. Benzothiazepines have demonstrated notable calcium channel-blocking properties, rendering them valuable in the treatment of cardiovascular diseases like hypertension and angina. Benzothiazole derivatives exhibit diverse pharmaceutical activities, including antimicrobial, anti-tumour, and anti-inflammatory, making them promising candidates for drug development. Benzothiophene derivatives have gained attention for their potential as anticancer agents and their ability to modulate specific receptors and enzymes implicated in various diseases. This chapter provides the compilation of the synthesis strategies employed for these three classes of compounds and highlights their biological significance.
