摘要

Organic pollutants known as polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are produced primarily when organic materials like oil, gas, and coal are not completely burned. There is a worldwide worry about the short- and long-term consequences of releasing these pollutants because the presence of PAHs can permanently harm the environment and living things. Sulfur-containing polycyclic aromatic compounds (SPACs) comprise most PACs and have received much research due to their use as biological markers and maturity indicators. High-sulfur coal has an exceptionally high SPAC level. Human cancer risk is increased by exposure to PAH-containing chemicals. PAHs include benzothiophene, dibenzothiophene, and thienothiophene, which are reported to have anti-cancer, anti-microbial, anti-fungal, and many other therapeutic applications. This chapter encompasses various studies related to sulfur-based polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
