Biomass Derived Adsorbent Materials for Removal of Environmental Pollutants

Environmental pollution is a dangerous issue faced by the modern world. So, the eradication of environmental pollutants is also very important. Environmental pollutants mainly encompass organic materials like heavy metal ions and dyes. Various methods are used for the removal of environmental pollutants, but adsorption is the most effective method. Now a days biomass-based adsorbents grab the attention of the entire world for the removal of environmental pollutants because biomass is a renewable source of energy, economically favourable and environmentally benign. Wheat bran, rice husk, sugarcane bagasse, fruit/vegetable waste, green coconut shells, tree barks and eggshells are some of the bio-adsorbents discussed in this chapter. Modified biomass adsorbents also very effective for the removal of organic pollutants like pesticides, pharmaceuticals, and dyes.
