Biomass, originating from materials namely plants, crop residues, manure, paper waste, organic waste, etc., is playing a pivotal role in addressing the worldwide need for renewable energy as well as sustainable resource management. This abstract furnishes a panoramic outline of the conservation, utilization, and environmental impact of biomass. The conservation of biomass resources mainly involves sustainable practices to ensure their long-term availability. This includes responsible forestry management, agricultural residue utilization, and also the promotion of energy crops. The main aim of the conservation strategies is to balance biomass utilization with the natural replacement of ecosystems and minimize the risk of overexploitation. The utilization of biomass encircles a wide range of applications, in which the primary focus is on bioenergy production. Biomass can be converted into useful biofuels, such as bioethanol and biodiesel, through several biochemical and thermochemical processes. Additionally, biomass can also serve as a feedstock for the production of many bioproducts, including bio-based chemicals and pharmaceuticals. This versatility in biomass utilization reduces the dependence on fossil fuels and mitigates climate change. While biomass offers environmental benefits as a renewable energy source, it can cause environmental implications. The abstract explores the environmental impact of biomass utilization, including potential emissions of greenhouse gases, particulate matter, land-use change, health hazards, and biodiversity loss. This review emphasizes the need for a comprehensive approach to biomass management, integrating conservation practices, efficient utilization technologies, and rigorous environmental assessments. The researchers and industry stakeholders must work together for the development and successful implementation of new ecofriendly strategies that promote the sustainable use of biomass resources with minimum adverse environmental and health effects.
