Biomass-Based Materials for Soil Augmentation and Remediation

A major global environmental issue, soil pollution has an effect on ecosystem health and agricultural output. Enhancing soil quality and reducing soil pollution can be achieved sustainably through the use of biomass resources in soil augmentation and remediation techniques. This article highlights the many kinds of biomass materials utilized and their importance while offering a thorough description of their role in soil augmentation and remediation. Crop wastes, organic wastes, and plant-based byproducts are examples of biomass resources that have earned recognition for their capacity to restore soil structure and remediate contaminated areas. In addition to improving soil fertility, water retention, and microbial activity, they function as organic additions. They can also assist in immobilizing pollutants, which lessens their mobility and possible environmental damage. The broad use of biomass materials in soil management is hampered by a number of issues despite the apparent advantages. Transportation expenses, differences in biomass quality, and feedstock availability are some of these problems. Although research is still being conducted to optimize material selection, deployment techniques, and innovative biotechnological technologies, the potential for employing biomass materials in soil augmentation and remediation is intriguing. In order to combat soil contamination and enhance soil health, biomass materials are examined in this article. We may use biomass-based solutions to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly soil management techniques by being aware of the opportunities and constraints associated with their use.
