The worldwide endeavour to find sustainable energy solutions has generated significant interest in the utilisation of carbon extracted from biomass as a potentially viable material for energy storage purposes. This abstract presents a thorough examination of the latest developments, obstacles, and prospects associated with carbon materials obtained from biomass, specifically in relation to energy storage. Biomass-derived carbon materials have distinct advantages, such as their abundant availability, renewable nature, and cost-effectiveness. This paper examines the diverse applications of energy storage utilising carbon derived from biomass. The scope of this study is the use of carbon obtained from biomass as a material for energy storage systems, including batteries and supercapacitors. The investigation aims to provide a deeper understanding of the electrochemical performance of these systems, including their capacitance and distinctive properties. The utilisation of carbon obtained from biomass exhibits significant potential. However, several obstacles, including scalability, reproducibility, and the comprehension of intricate connections between precursor attributes and material properties, must be effectively tackled. The research finishes by providing a prospective analysis of the potential future advancements in biomass-derived carbon compounds for the purpose of energy storage applications, as well as their integration into developing energy technologies.
