Challenges in Optimizing Feed Additives for Indian Aquaculture: Addressing Challenges and Providing Solutions—A Case Study

Global output is increasing due to aquaculture, which is one of the fastest expanding sectors in the world. As antibiotics are prohibited as growth promoters and because of their detrimental effects on the host, an external source of aquaculture productivity is the use of natural feed additives. More and more customers are worried that antibiotics can degrade water quality and development instead of enhancing it with natural feed additives that boost aquaculture output. Feed additives are used to maintain water quality, suppress the growth of harmful microorganisms, and limit their abundance. Owing to these reasons, a variety of nutritional feed additives, including symbiotics, prebiotics, probiotics, natural oils, and extrinsic enzymes, are being used by the livestock sector. However, the most pertinent uses of probiotic feed additives in the aquaculture industry are discussed here, with particular attention paid to their ability to strengthen immune responses, compete for binding sites, generate antipathogenic compounds, and use diet to improve growth performance. These substances are considered advantageous due to their distinct therapeutic qualities and advantageous ecological metabolism in the gastrointestinal tract. This paper discusses the roles of different feed additives and how significant they are in the quality of aquaculture production.
