Polysaccharide-Based Cell Scaffolds for Cartilage Regeneration

There are many diseases with cartilage defects. Since cartilage does not heal naturally, there are great expectations for the treatment of cartilage defects by regenerative medicine. In cartilage regeneration, chondrocytes and mesenchymal stem cells are mainly used; in that case, the cell scaffolds play important roles. In this chapter, we will introduce the cell scaffolds for cartilage regeneration that are currently clinically used and then introduce the polysaccharide-based cell scaffolds, including the achievement from the author’s group.
