Magnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles via Intratumoral Injection for Cancer Photothermal Therapy

  • Maoquan Chu (储茂泉)

摘要

The administration route of intratumoral injection has been widely applied in fundamental research. This injection method is also permitted to be used for a patient in the clinic. Magnetic iron oxide nanoparticles through intratumoral injection for cancer photothermal therapy (PTT) not only make the tumor long term contain highly concentrated iron oxide nanoparticles for generating a strong photothermal effect via laser triggering but also reduce the injection dose and frequency and avoid systematic toxicity. This chapter discusses the advantages of intratumoral injection, intratumoral injection in clinic practice, the main factors on the retention effect of materials in the tumor, and the magnetic iron oxide nanoparticle-mediated cancer PTT through intratumoral injection. The strategies for improving the iron oxide nanoparticles’ uniform distribution throughout the tumor tissue after local injection are also discussed.
