Between 1986 and 2016, China experienced an upward trend in precipitation and soil moisture across monthly, seasonal, and annual timescales. Sub-regions 5 and 7, which are classified as sub-humid and humid areas, received higher precipitation levels and had higher soil moisture. Conversely, sub-region 1 received the lowest precipitation levels and had lower soil moisture.
