A Bibliometric Analysis of the Global Literature from 1972 to 2022 on “Indigenous Knowledge of Nature Conservation” Using the Lens Database and VOSViewer

This article aims to provide a bibliometric data analysis of the scholarly literature that pertains to Indigenous knowledge of nature conservation, using the Lens.org database (open source) and VOSViewer software. The study successfully attempts to analyze the past 50 years (1972 to 2022) of published scholarly work, research trends, and potential future research areas on Indigenous knowledge of nature conservation. A step-by-step analysis was provided to make utilizing software convenient for beginners. We carried this analysis out based on the number of publications obtained, relating to the predetermined topics totaling 20,130 documents. Bibliometric analysis and data visualization of bibliometric data, including keywords, co-occurrence, co-authorship, and overlay visualization, were accomplished using VOSViewer. The study encourages trans-disciplinary research approaches that will strengthen the significance of indigenous knowledge for nature conservation as an integral part of scientific research and development, policy, planning and strategies, and the framework dealing with nature conservation. As the Indigenous knowledge system (IKS) is becoming more widely acknowledged as naturally encompassing the majority of Sustainable Development Goals’ components and guiding principles.
