Protecting Australian First Nation’s Dja: Whither Cultural Values Assessments About Country in the Face of Land Use Development Pressures

With the increasing prominence of a First Nations People’s Voice in Australia, the enactment of a First Nations Voice to the South Australian state parliament, the productive consultations towards a Treaty in the state of Victoria, and the unsuccessful national referendum in Australia to include a ‘National Voice’ in the Australian Constitution, the position of First Nations People’s ‘Cultural Values’ in Australia will become increasingly relevant. This chapter considers one aspect of these Values, as it pertains to land use developments in the state of Victoria and recent policy shifts within Wadawurrung Country in offering the opportunity to elevate Wadawurrung Voice in statutory and strategies planning land use and policies deliberations.
