摘要

Peoneal tendon disorder is not rare. In last few decades, attention regarding this problem has increased. Three primary categories of peroneal tendon pathology exist: tendinopathy, tendon tears/ruptures, and tendon dislocation. Several anatomical variations may predispose to peroneal tendon pathology. A low-lying peroneus brevis muscle, accessory peroneal muscles (peroneus quartus and peroneus quintus), shape of retromalleolar groove, shape of peroneal tubercle, and presence of os peroneum might all predispose the development of clinically important conditions. Detailed history and careful clinical examination are very important while looking for the peroneal problems. Furthermore, peroneal tendon pathologies are mostly assessed with magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. Although plain film X-ray and computed tomography contribute less when it comes to the investigation of tendons disorder, they remain a useful tool in the diagnosis of bone abnormalities, which can be responsible or associated to tendon disorders. Lateral ankle pain must include a wide range of differential diagnoses. Finally, when observing “ankle sprain,” always think about possible peroneal tendon disorder.
