Progressive Collapsing Foot Deformity

Progressive collapsing foot deformity (PCFD) primarily affects middle-aged and elderly women due to degeneration of the posterior tibialis tendon (PTT), leading to foot pain, malalignment, and reduced function. Imaging is crucial for supplementing clinical examination. Various imaging tools are available, with radiographs commonly used despite limitations in reproducibility and accuracy. Advanced cross-sectional techniques like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), conventional computed tomography (CT), and weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT) offer comprehensive insights into deformities in multiple dimensions. MRI and conventional CT provide detailed anatomical information without imposing physiological stress, while WBCT, performed under load, may not be universally available. However, the ability of three-dimensional evaluation of the deformity in patients with PCFD using WBCT may have high clinical implications for preoperative evaluation and improving outcomes in patients with PCFD.
