The Achilles tendon being the largest and most active tendon in the human body is susceptible to a wide range of pathologies. Understanding the basic anatomy and biomechanics of the tendon plays a crucial role in diagnosing the various afflictions. A thorough history and a detailed clinical examination will reveal the diagnosis in most conditions. Imaging will help to confirm the clinical diagnosis and the extent of the pathology. The following chapter will cover all of the above-mentioned points.
