By upgrading traditional industries and promoting the formation of new industries, the digital economy has provided sufficient impetus for the healthy and stable development of the economy, and has become the main driving force for high-quality economic development. In order to study the relationship between digital economy and carbon emissions and understand its impact on the development of industrial structure in recent years, use VOSviewer and Cite Space software to conduct visual analysis of documents in the WoS database from 2013 to 2023.Using spatio-temporal knowledge graph and content knowledge graph analysis as the main research methods, reveals research hotspots and development trends on the impact of digital skills on carbon footprint. The analysis found that the research on this issue has the following characteristics: (1) Since 2013, there has been an increasing number of scholars who have started to take notice of it, and in 2017 the field witnessed a significant surge in research progress. (2) Looking at the content, the advancement of the digital economy has successfully resulted in a decrease in per capita carbon emissions and overall carbon emissions. (3) Research hotspots include “Life-cycle Assessment”, “Energy”, “Digital Economy”, “Sustainability”, etc. For this reason, we can more clearly observe research trends and cutting-edge developments in this field, lay a solid foundation for the future, and provide references for policy formulation and practice.
