Future of Energy Sector: A Sustainable and Resilient Pathway
摘要
The future of energy infrastructure goes towards a sustainable and resilient pathway. Sustainable energy infrastructure should be clean, affordable, and acceptable. The global commitment to tackle climate change requires clean energy sources which should maintain affordability to ensure access for the entire population. The technologies need to also be acceptable to the public so that the power plants can continuously operate. Resilient energy infrastructure should be tolerable, recoverable, adaptable, and secure. Future energy infrastructure should tolerate increasingly frequent and severe natural and man-made disruptions and recover speedily if it failed to withstand the threats. It should also be equipped with adaptive capacity by learning from past failures. Finally, the entire energy system should be made secured by diversifying and domesticizing the energy sources. Factors that help accelerate the transition towards sustainable and resilient energy infrastructure include cross-sectoral collaboration to synchronize the efforts of specialists from various fields, international cooperation to fulfill the gaps of knowledge, technology and financial capability, science and risk-informed evidence-based policymaking, and well-identified critical research areas for the scientific community to work forward.
