The current chapter offers an in-depth exploration of the sensory world of malaria vectors. The first part of the chapter focuses on how these mosquitoes use a complex array of sensory information, integrating olfactory, visual, hygric, and thermal cues to efficiently locate their hosts. It delves into the mechanisms of host detection, emphasising the dominant role of olfaction and the contribution of other senses in guiding mosquitoes to their prey. The second part examines the impact of genetic, ecological, and environmental factors on the evolution and adaptation of the host-seeking behavioural characteristics of these mosquitoes. It highlights how urbanization, environmental changes, and parasites influence mosquito host preferences, providing insights into the evolutionary aspects of host specificity.
