Management of Mosquitoes: Past, Present, and Future

摘要

Over 40% of the world’s population is at risk of mosquito-borne diseases, which are a growing global health challenge. The only effective method for preventing certain mosquito-borne diseases is to reduce the vector population. Developing pesticide resistance has made it impossible to control mosquito vectors in a sustainable way, which has prompted the development of new techniques. Diverse and cutting-edge mosquito control technologies are being created to combat this expanding issue. Conceptually, these include an astounding range of strategies, from use of synthetic and plant-based products that may cause a mosquito population to collapse or limit its capacity to transmit disease by developing genetically modified mosquitoes and creating sterile mosquitoes to using green synthesized nanoparticles and also attractive toxic sugar bait (ATSB) which attracts sugar-seeking mosquitoes, which is a new and promising method of controlling mosquitoes. Despite using a variety of techniques to keep these vector populations below the threshold level, including chemical, biological, and genetic strategies, we are still unable to stop the spread of illness. In order to effectively manage mosquitoes, an interdisciplinary approach is therefore necessary, and this theme issue will include essays highlighting the variety of studies on mosquito management.
