Primary Intraosseous Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma of Jaws

Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant tumor originating in salivary glands. Ectopic MECs may occur in any part of the body, but only 2–4% of MECs occur in the jaw bone, which is known as primary intraosseous mucoepidermoid carcinoma (PIMC) [1–5]. PIMC is usually low or medium grade, and its lesion needs to be distinguished from ameloblastoma and odontogenic cysts on imaging findings. Since PIMC may recur long after surgery, long-term follow-up is required for patients with PIMC.
