Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of Jaw

摘要

Medication-related osteonecrosis of jaws (MRONJ) is a kind of bone tissue lesion caused by bisphosphonates, RANK-L inhibitors, antiangiogenic drugs or some hormonal drugs, which is different from radiation-induced osteonecrosis of jaws. Bisphosphonate-related osteonecrosis of jaws (BRONJ) was first reported in 2003. Recently, it was found that some other anti-angiogenesis and anti-bone resorption drugs can also cause osteonecrosis of the jaw. Therefore, in 2014, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons suggested renaming it as “medication-related osteonecrosis of jaws,” and it has been used ever since. MRONJ is essentially a jaw metabolic disorder disease, and its pathogenesis and treatment are still in the stage of exploration and discussion [1–7]. The ultimate goal of conservative or surgical intervention is to stabilize the disease and prevent its progress.
