Real-Time Investigation on Electromagnetic Radiation Exposure from Cell Tower

Non-ionizing radiation from the cell towers is considered as the major source of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) that exists in the outdoor environment. The unauthorized installation of the mobile towers in the populated areas creates health issues for living creatures like plants, animals, birds, and insects including human beings. The effects on each creature in the environment lead to the degradation of the living ecosystem. These reported effects on each of the living things are analyzed based on the absorption rate when the EMR is exposed to it. This work aims to analyze the rate at which EMR is exposed to the living community based on the field characteristics near and far from the mobile tower. The intensity of these can be determined by analyzing the variation in the electric (E) field distribution with close proximity to the identified mobile tower. The cell tower was selected on the location which is highly populated and includes educational institutions. Within the selected area, it can be observed that the vegetation has growth retardation and lacks seedlings with dry leaves and barks. These reported issues in the study area are due to the differences in the field characteristics examined by an Electrosmog meter (PCE-EM-29) at different locations from the selected cell tower. The absorption of EMR is influenced by the characteristics of the electric field, and variations in the absorption are the evidence of the reported issues in the nearby region from the tower. As the E-field in the nearby region increases, the absorption is also increased.
