Poverty Alleviation and Development in Farming-Pastoral Regions: A Case Study of Wuqia County, Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region
摘要
Wuqia is a farming-pastoral county where animal husbandry outweighs farming. In 2013, there were 2,392 hectares of cropland and 1,463 hectares of pastureland in county. However, the output of agriculture was not on a par with that of animal husbandry due to the poor cropland. In the yearly total output of agriculture and animal husbandry, the output of agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry accounts for 26.97%, 1.89%, and 63.97%, respectively. Wuqia is faced with a relatively severe problem of poverty and is one of the poorest counties in the contiguous areas with particular difficulties in the three prefectures of southern Xinjiang.
