Hexagonal Close-Packed HEA Superconductors

By drawing together individual reports and supplementing them with new collective insights, this Chapter provides the first comprehensive review of the state of the art of superconducting hexagonal close-packed high-entropy alloys. It is divided into five Sections. Sections 7.1 and 7.2 overview hcp HEAs in general, then specifically the superconducting hcp HEAs that have been reported to date. This leads into Sect. 7.3, where the dependence of the superconducting critical temperature on valence electron countValence electron count in these materials is evaluated. Then, in Sect. 7.4, the challenges and opportunities for the discovery of new hcp HEAs are discussed. Finally, in Sect. 7.5, superconductivity-motivated future prospects are linked to wider research efforts in the HEA field.
