摘要

Biomarkers in dementia research are indispensable tools, significantly improving the precision of comprehending disease mechanisms and guiding treatment approaches. This chapter aims to investigate the landscape of biomarkers in dementia research, with a particular emphasis on clarifying their role in improving diagnostic precision and directing therapeutic approaches. The primary goal is to conduct a thorough literature review, synthesizing information from pertinent research publications such as PubMed from the year 2012 up till 2023, and clinical studies that contribute towards understanding dementia biomarkers. The chapter tries to provide insights into the many types of biomarkers, including neuroimaging measures, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analytes, and developing blood-based indicators, by critically reviewing a variety of published publications. The process entails rigorous citation and review of relevant research to decipher the intricate interplay of biomarkers in Alzheimer’s disease and associated dementias, giving light to their potential for early detection, disease progression tracking, and tailored treatment options. Furthermore, exploring blood-based biomarkers, including their identification and validation, offers promising avenues for cost-effective screening methods. Advances in high-throughput technologies, such as proteomics and genomics, contribute substantially to discovering biomarkers and unraveling the intricate molecular landscape associated with dementia.
