Friction Stir Welding

The friction stir welding (FSW) technique was first invented by Wayne Thomas and E. Nicolas at The Welding Institute (TWI) of the United Kingdom (UK) in 1991. FSW uses a rotating tool that joins two separate specimens. The specimen body is subjected to rotational or linear oscillation, and material fusion occurs at the interface through frictional heat.
