Role of MXenes in Biotechnology

摘要

In recent years, MXenes and their composites have attracted interest due to the growing emphasis on biotechnology and biomedical sciences. Their distinctive structural and functional qualities opened up new avenues in the fields of medicines, food packaging, wastewater treatment, and plant biotechnology. The medicinal application of MXenes has facilitated their prospective roles as drug delivery systems and anticancer agents. MXenes, as emerging two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials, have shown excellent absorption capacity for diverse contaminants in wastewater treatment. MXenes also exhibited superior physical, mechanical, and barrier properties, which made them a vital component of food packaging materials. The application of MXenes in agriculture can simultaneously increase plant development and resilience to numerous biotic and abiotic stressors. The type of functional groups present and the 2D structure of MXenes have a significant impact on their involvement in biotechnology. This chapter offers suggestions for synthesizing versatile MXene nanoparticles for biotechnological applications.
