Expounding Conflicts of Interest

Scientific endeavors are a complex conglomerate with inherent structural weaknesses. Understanding conflicts of interest (CoI) ensures the purity and durability of scientific pursuits. CoI can be mitigated by implementing research rules and guidelines. Herein, we highlighted key tenets of the publishing process, which comprises the author-editor-reviewers axis linked via peer-review process. We also discussed tangible financial aspects of CoI, including research grants and intellectual property interests, among others. Finally, we briefly highlighted best practices as next steps to mitigate CoI in restoring trust in scientific pursuits.
