Prospects and Importance of Training Needs in Peer Review Models

Since the eighteenth century, formal peer review has been an integral part of the scientific publishing process. Considering the timeline and discipline, guidelines and practices of peer reviewing have varied extensively, while the key themes have remained consistent and focused on the correctness of work and not allowing distorted literature and false claims, as well as welcoming the introduction of valuable new ideas. Peer review helps researchers to participate in the academic community, build their writing skills, professional reputations, and advance their careers. Although the whole scenario of an increasing number of published papers over the years has questioned the integrity of the whole publishing model, including the peer review system. Survey reports have mentioned the demand for proper training for reviewing, which in turn enhances the quality of manuscripts. This chapter accounts for the different aspects, challenges, and needs of proper training in the peer review system.
