Peer Review as a Potential Idea Creation

Peer review is the process of involving one or more persons who possess similar competencies as the creators of the work to examine and evaluate the work. Peer review systems are used to maintain quality standards, enhance performance in manuscript writing and presentation, and enhance reliability. Peer review is expected to evaluate the scientific rigour and originality of manuscripts before they can be published. The peer review process also ensures the elimination of low-quality manuscripts to preserve the reliability of the domain. Each submitted manuscript requires unbiased scrutiny from the reviewers who are required to evaluate the work on its own merits without considering the author(s)’ ethnicity, religion, nationality, sex, seniority, or institutional affiliation. The review(s) should be sufficiently constructive to add new dimensions to the manuscript. In the last decade, preprints have gained ground and have been appreciated and used by a wide research community. Preprints provide an excellent platform for an open review process that further minimizes any sort of bias. Here, I discuss the basics of the peer review system and its core motive of improving research evidence and knowledge.
