Comparative politics is a branch of politics, which refers to the systematic comparative study on political phenomena and problems in different countries and regions. In the general classification of disciplines, comparative politics is generally different from purely domestic politics and usually takes the politics and political systems of other countries or other regions as the research objects. In view of this, foreign politics is sometimes regarded as an inappropriate synonym for comparative politics. Of course, the study on foreign politics really embodies the application of comparative methods more typically, because even case study cannot leave the comparison if it is necessary to ensure research depth. In the context of China, comparative politics mainly refers to the comparative study on political institutions, political behavior, political cultures, and political development of other countries and regions outside China, and the comparative study on “Chinese and foreign politics” also belongs to the category of comparative politics.
