Since the reform and opening up, research on information organization and retrieval has developed vigorously. During the late 1970s and early 1980s, the research started in the areas of classification method, literature cataloging, metadata, subject retrieval language, and information retrieval model research. However, in the 1990s, information organization area gained much attention, including the application of traditional information organization method in the network resources along with the development of computer technology, electronic and network resources, and information organization methods for network resources such as network taxonomy, folksonomies, semantic web, and associated data. The field of information retrieval has also developed from the dominant retrieval theory and model of the 1980s to the prosperous development of retrieval technologies, tools, and evaluation research in 1990s. And then, there emerged personalized retrieval, intelligent retrieval, and semantic-based retrieval in the twenty-first century.
