Research Methods of Chinese Politics
摘要
Research methods are tools and means to discover and solve problems, reveal the inherent laws of things, and put forward new theoretical viewpoints. In the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the research methods of China’s politics have achieved a leap from scratch, and great progress has been made through constant learning, study, and reflection. Generally speaking, there are two levels of research methods in politics: the first level refers to the research orientation of politics, that is, “the combination of attitude, understanding and practice defines a certain way of politics research” (Marsh and Stoker 2002). The concrete analysis includes a series of analytical frameworks of historical materialism, new institutionalism, rational choice, behaviorism, political culture, and political elites. The second level specifically refers to specific research techniques, including quantitative research, qualitative field interviews, form models, game theory, and experimental methods (Jing and Wang 2016; Guo 2016). Of course, there is a close relationship between research orientation and specific research techniques, and the division boundary between various research orientations is not absolute. Their boundaries are often blurred with the development of disciplines, and they even learn from and combine with each other.
