The Chinese Journal of Sociology was founded at the end of 1981. It was the first sociology publication that was founded after Sociology was reconstructed as a discipline in China. Over the last 37 years, the journal has gone through three stages. Between 1981 and 1985, as the only publicly issued sociology journal, The Chinese Journal of Sociology played a leading role in rectifying the name of Sociology and enlightening the domestic public and the scholars’ awareness of Sociology. Between 1986 and 2004, it functioned partly as a popular magazine and partly as an academic journal. However, since the journal could not keep pace with the progress of the specialization and academicization of Sociology, it was unable to guide any disciplinary and academic progress. Since its revision in 2005, The Chinese Journal of Sociology has planned academic topics, guided academic debates, and published high-quality papers, which have had a positive impact on Sociology whether as a discipline or not.
